My wife and I ate at Annie's on Kent Island. I am not easily impressed with restaurants, but one word describes Annie's-- AWESOME. Service was very good, food was incredible, and atmosphere was best I have seen in a long time. We will definitely return when we are in the area. Thanks to the owners and the entire staff.

I just wanted the folks at Annie's to know what an OUTSTANDING JOB they do with food, service and attention to customers. My partner and I make a point of driving an hour at LEAST once a week just to eat there. We have been eating there once a week for almost a year now and have not once had a bad experience with food or service. In fact, it is VERY REFRESHING to know that a restraunt still exists that has top-notch and personable waiters/waitresses. We always sit in the smoking/bar area and I feel horrible that I cannot remember our "usual" waitresses' name but she is a young lady with a toungue ring!! Go figure, I can remember that! We usually spot her and ask the hostess to sit us in her area. We also have been waited on by almost everyone else there and the staff are all terrific in the bar area. As far as food; you CANNOT FIND BETTER FOOD ANYWHERE on the Eastern Shore. The menu is EXTENSIVE which is nice if you are with others who don't eat certain things.
My personal favorites are: The Ribeye (PERFECTLY COOKED EVERY TIME), ALL the seafood/pasta dishes & the Crab Imperial Stuffed Rockfish (TO DIE FOR!!) The Cream of Crab is the best on the Island. Even the salads are great. A MUST TRY for anyone who has not been there.
I am looking so forward to living within 10 min from this restraunt!!!!!!!!!
P.S.- ANOTHER MUST TRY: Sunday Brunch!!!!! EXCELLENT SELECTION!

Annie?s Steakhouse, was absolutely horrible. I am from Virginia, and was on the shore visiting family. We ate at Annie?s on Friday 8th, 2008. The atmosphere was lovely. Piano player was good, however the bug crawling across our table ruined my mood, for the over priced under seasoned food. I was appalled by first the bug, (which the waitress killed with our candle holder with no apologies) then our rolls were so hard that the ?olive oil? that was placed with the bread didn?t even saturate the top layer, the food was bland. I ordered the fried oyster platter with a baked potato, the oysters were comparable to ?Mrs.Paul?s? frozen dinners, and the potato looked as if it had been microwaved not baked. The ?kids? menu, offered $14.00 chicken tenders, comparable to Arby?s (but twice the price.) I wouldn?t give this restaurant a flicker of light, let alone a star. How embarrassing for the Eastern Shore?s ?finest? restaurant. We shall see If you post this review and are honest about wanting to provide quality service information to your tourists. Thank you. Brunch on Sunday 2/17/08

Having eaten at Annie's several times in the past, I have to say I was extremely disappointed in the brunch selection/availability and quality. We were there to celebrate a birthday. Having been there in December 2006 for the brunch, we were excited to go back again for brunch. However, this time was NO comparison. The buffet was less than fully-stocked in many items, the biscuits were heavy, bacon was soggy and greasy, no scrambled eggs (so you could only get an omelet) and the desserts tasted somewhat institutional. The servers for the waffles and ham/beef were not there on 2 of the 3 times I went up to the buffet. Very disappointing!

***As an amendment to this review.....I was contacted by the owner who apologized and provided explanation for a few things including that he was out of town (and not overseeing the restaurant) and we may have eaten at a "holiday" brunch previously (in which the offerings and price are normally higher). The fact that he took the effort and time to followup is an indication that attention will be given to these matters. That makes me feel much better about patronizing Annie's in the future.

Review:
Big Bat's is great for a casual night out. The food is decent with large portions, and the menu is quite extensive. You aren't going to get a gourmet meal here, but you will have a fun time. The decor is everything baseball. The tables have old baseball cards under the top plexi-glass, the lamps are bats, the pictures are of Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth. There are TV's on with whatever sporting event is playing. The service has always been good and the staff seems to be having fun with what they do. I recommend the Wraps and Burgers, as well as anything with chicken or steak. Their Buffalo sauce is wonderful here. Stay away from ribs, seafood, and pasta dishes, as they have never lived up to my expectations. Going from the restaurant over to the bar (it's a completely different room) the theme is the same. There are a lot of TV's tuned to ESPN and other sports channels, and music being played. There are a few video games (besides the game room in the lobby area) and foosball as well. Big Bat's offers a very good array of beer - both in bottles, and on tap. They have a rather small wine list unfortunately, but what they do have is decent. The bartenders and wait staff in the pub area are very friendly and seem to know the locals well. A lot of laughing goes on, on both sides of the bar. My only problem with the pub side is that they have really poor ventilation, so if smokers bother you...this will really bother you. I come up to Big Bat's with my family for dinner a few times a month (kids love it), and I stop in to the bar area after work also a few times a month. I always feel at home here, which is a great thing. It's a great family restaurant that only needs to improve on a few things (pasta and seafood), and the bar is great other than the smoke. Be sure to try the wings!

My wife and I love going to Kent Island once a year. We stop at 7-8 restaurants through our 3 day weekend there. Once you pull in and dock your boat, or grab a hotel room, you can walk to every hot spot on the island. One bar that was a big hit during our last visit was ?The Big Owl? Tiki bar. It is located next to The Narrows Restaurant. You will need to walk out on a dock to get to it but can?t miss the canary yellow building. The Big Owl is a seasonal bar. They feature live outdoor music on the dock, a limited bar menu (fresh steamed shrimp and such), and a variety of beers, and mixed drinks. My wife and I were actually sent over to The Big Owl by a bartender at another bar. She told us to go over and have Jessica make us a Rum Punch. Her advice was spot on. We enjoyed a few punches, Jimmy Buffet and Eric Clapton music, and the company of several boaters that stopped in for happy hour. Our bartender was very friendly, and went out of her way to make our visit comfortable and tasty. 5 stars for the Rum Punch. It was definitely worth making the trip out to the hut. Must have... one of Jes?s Rum Punches!

Reviewed May 19th 2012

This is a review of Bridges Restaurant in Kent Narrows, which is in Grasonville/Wells Cove. This review is written after about twelve visits there since their opening, which was about two years ago. I would give them one star, since there is no lower classification.

Pluses: terrific view, accessible by boat or car or on foot if you are willing to walk a bit. Mostly adequate parking, and slips. Live entertainment sometimes (full disclosure, I've played in one of these bands on and off for years)

Minuses: Bridges started out with a huge investment in the building, and in servers and staff. The food has always been just okay, although they've gone through a few chefs and managers, from what I can gather. The number of wait staff has been reduced- the service has gotten slower and slower, and the menu continues to be mediocre at best, although some of the signature drinks are rather good.

Saturday night of Mothers' Day weekend 2012 we were seated with a reservation, and then had one of the worse dining, or not dining, experiences I've ever suffered through; long wait for a server, got our orders in, drinks and appetizers arrived after a wait but not an unreasonable one- and then no entrees at all after an hour. We finally gave up and asked to leave, worn out and discouraged, whereupon we were presented with a bill for the drinks and appetizers, which we paid, afraid to make a scene about it. This was part of the general disarray that the establishment clearly was in that night- mass chaos would be a charitable description. We left hungry, tired, and dispirited.

After several emails and calls, I spoke with the owner, a local attorney, by phone. Unfortunately this didn't go well, either- I barely got a word in edgewise, but was treated to a long harangue about the restaurant business and how difficult it is. We were also invited back as guests of the owner a nd his wife, which was a completely tone-deaf response to the problem- the last thing I would want is to come back and be in that kind of spotlight- how embarrassing would that be? Dreadful, I think. I advised the owner that he could give us a gift certificate to Annie's and show us he is a good sport. He declined.

Overall, a place best avoided, unless all you want is drinks and a great view. The service will be slow, but anything that they can just open a bottle or a can of, they can't screw up, and the view IS nice. For dining, for lunch, go elsewhere. After two years, they are still trying to figure out how to do their jobs, which does not point well for the future.

We went to Cafe Sado last week and I have to say that the food was terrific! I had a "Harmony" sushi roll (Crab & Eel) and the shrimp Yakisoba for dinner. The sushi roll was wonderful and after we finished that I was left wanting more sushi, but we ended up with a noodle dish to try that side out. The Yakisoba was done perfectly and the shrimp were really tasty. My girlfriend got sashimi (Sp?) Tuna and was very happy with that. My only complaint was that we had like 3 different waiters who all didn't seem to know what was going on. They brough us the wrong food at first, but then figured out where to go, then I hot a bottled beer instead of a Saki, and we waited a pretty long time for the check. They're new, so I give them a pass on the service since I know that it's a regular problem over here anyway finding a staff, so aside from that little glitch this place is really great. The decor is nice too and it will be really nice sitting outside when Spring comes. Definately worth a try.

The Chesapeake Family Restaurant has opened in the building that Chesapeake Chicken occupied. The interior is tastefully done with Chesapeake Bay décor. Staff is courteous and friendly and the owner is just an overall super nice person and stops by all the tables to see how the meal and service was. This is down home ?Southern style home cooking at it?s best ? and being from the South I could appreciate the home cooked menu. First of all ? they serve breakfast ALL DAY ? and the person at our table ordered a cheese omelet that came with fresh hash browns and toast. It was huge and quite tasty. The rest of our party had chicken tenders, fried shrimp, pork chops and catfish. All were very good ? and big portions. The friend catfish was some of the best I?ve had. Along with your meal you receive soup or salad and a choice of two sides. The mashed potatoes were the old fashioned kind with brown gravy and with the skins on (mmmmm - - sooooo good). Onion rings, cole slaw, fries, fried mozzarella were all very good as well. You also have a choice of regular or sweet tea (haven?t had that option in a long time). We were so full that none of us in our party had room for desert. I?d like to see fried okra on the menu for my own personal preference ? but I don?t think I?d be in the majority. Chesapeake Family Restaurant has might vote ? let?s try to support this local restaurant so Cracker Barrel doesn?t push him out the door!

I had some out of town friends come in on Saturday and we decided to grab a late lunch at The Crab Deck. I usually stay clear of the Crab Deck in the early summer months because it's always so jam-packed, but in the Fall this is such a cool place. The food here isn't gourmet or anything like that, but you get tasty food and a generous portion of it. I had the crab cake & fried shrimp combo and cherrystone clams. They had a stuffed flounder on special so my GF got that, and our guests both got hard crabs and steamed oysters. The broiled crab cake was very good and the large shrimp were not over battered and greasy, they were really good. The clams had a lot of silt in them, so they were bay clams and they probably should get into the practice of keeping them in a tank of clean salt water for 24 hours so that the spit out the silt, so I wouldn't get those again unless they did something like that (it's what I do at home). I tasted the flounder and it was really good, and the oysters were done perfectly. I didn't get a chance to try the crabs, but our friends liked them and said that they were meaty. Our server was super-friendly and was joking with us and really made the experience that much better. I wish that I could remember her name because she deserves praise. It was a bit chilly out, but a sunny day, so the glass doors were mostly closed, but we still had that great view and after we ate we went to the bar area where the doors were open and just enjoyed the bay. The Crab Deck is seasonal and unfortunately will probably be closed soon, which is always a bit sad to see for me.

We have been to Kent Narrows a dozen times and for some reason never went to the ?Fisherman?s Inn?. This time my wife and I decided to go in for a little lunch. The atmosphere was incredible. If you have young children and want to eat somewhere that will keep them entertained, then this is the place to go. They have a collection of oyster plates that is probably worth 10?s of thousands of dollars. The lounge area (bar) is actually carved into and shaped like a boat. There is a G-Scale train that rides along the ceiling of the restaurant through 2 dining rooms. There is more fishing memorabilia in one place than anywhere else I have been, and we vacation in places like NC Outer Banks, Virgina, Florida, and the Caribean. There are fishing murals on several walls throughout the restaurant as well.

The restaurant was very full for a Saturday afternoon. The dining room was humming and everyone seemed to be having a great time. There were a dozen specials on a board as you walk in that made your mouth water. My wife and I decided to go to the bar and have a drink and get an appetizer before deciding on lunch. The bar was a little busy because there was a banquet in the room next to the bar and servers were rushing food in and out through the bar areas. Our bartender was very nice and attentive. We ordered a Bloody Mary and a Delaware Microbrew (special of the month which was outstanding). We started with an order of seafood nachos. The description sounded great. Nachos topped with Monterey jack cheese, shrimp, and snow crab. As soon as I took my first bite, I knew we were not eating snow crab. It had a very slimy and fishy consistency. I asked the bartender if this was actually snow crab, or imitation crab meat. She said that she would need to ask the chef. She came back a few minutes later and said that the chef said it was Surimi crab. For those of you that don?t know Surimi is Imitation crab meat made by blending processed fish, with various texturizing ingredients, flavorants, and colorants. Being an avid cook myself I knew they were trying to pass this off as ?Snow Crab? which is what it said on the menu. We were a little put off that we were in the heart of the Chesapeake bay and being fed imitation crab that was labeled as snow crab on the menu.

We witnessed locals coming in and ordering seafood dishes without even looking at the menu, so in this land of watermen, I am sure there were many fine dishes being served here. When we come back to the narrows and have our children with us next time we will still come back to the Fishermans Inn for the nostalgia and give something else on the menu a try. But we will be sure to ask our server what kind of crab meat they are using and where it comes from BEFORE ordering. On a culinary level Fisherman?s Inn was our biggest disappointment from our trip. But as a tourist attraction is SURE to impress.

We had taken our friends about a month ago and one of them ordered a burger. After he had a couple of bits, he said it smells funny. We just laughed and didn't really pay much attention. A couple of bites later, he said it again and he gave it to our daughter and she said "something is wrong with this burger, I think the meat is bad." We called the waitress, she took it and came back with "Oh yeah, sorry the meat was bad but we will give you half off of a crab cake." I was stunned. First of all he was feeling sick just at the thought of eating bad meat and I could not believe that was all they were willing to compensate. Our entire meal should have been free and believe me if we had not been with company I would have insisted. We live on the island, but WE WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN.

My wife and I stopped at Harris' on Monday May 4th for a late lunch about 2 pm. We should have known how we were greeted what kind of experience we would have. The greeter acted as though we were bothering her even though there were no other patrons around. We told her we wanted a window seat and she checked her chart, tediously, and led us over to our table without another word.

Then we sat there and sat there and sat there. My wife went to the restroom and returned and still no waitress. Finally, I got up and went back to our greeter and complained that about 6 or 7 waitresses were having a pow-wow together at one table and they all ignored us. Promptly, then someone showed up saying that she thought someone else had attended to us. (There is almost nothing worse than being ignored. It's at close to a kiss of death as a business can get.)

We ordered a Bud-Lite and a Coors lite. The waitress came back with one beer. She said the Bud keg was empty and a new one needed to be tapped. (I should have then ordered another Coors.) Finally, I got my beer.

We ordered the cream of crab soup and a dozen steamed crabs. The soup was outstanding. The broth was so thick and rich that the spoon stood straight up in it. It tasted great. Then we got the crabs.

They were of good size for the 'large' that we 'd ordered, but it was clear that they were steamed without the seasoning being applied until after the crabs came out of the steamer. This is not the way a 'Maryland Crab House' should steam crabs. The crabs were full but tasted terrible. They had that ammonia taste to them which is indicative of stale, old and maybe even dead crabs. It was not what I had wished for from Harris'.

We had eaten there numerous times before and always came away with a good experience. I hope their kitchen and their personnel are not on the decline. I'll be going to the Crab Deck for my crabs from now on.

My wife and I, along with our in-laws have been to Harris Crab House several times. We have yet to leave disappointed. This visit was no exception. We started with a half dozen large steamed crabs. The crabs were very good. Of course these were gulf crabs shipped up from Florida since we are a ways from crab season in the Chesapeake. However, they were full, seasoned well, and came out hot enough to burn your fingers, which is as it should be. A scale from 1-10 on these crabs would probably earn them a 6 or 7. Not bad for March. My wife chose the Lobster dinner. The lobster was cooked appropriately and came out prepped for eating but was really nothing special. It was Friday night which is all you can eat oyster buffet night at Harris. To all of you oyster lovers out there?..THIS IS IT!!!! The buffett was $28 and well worth every penny. As a smart buffet person you would want to key in on the value of the items you choose to fill up on. Here were the highlights?.Oyster?s on the half shell. 2 guys standing there shucking like there was no tomorrow. They had 4 feet of cases of fresh oysters stacked up behind them, and you never waited in line for more than five minutes. Be sure to tip these guys a couple of bucks. For those of you that have never shucked an oyster?.this is NOT a fun job. Steamed oysters- Just HUGE oysters steamed to perfection. Fried oysters- the chaffing dishes were constantly being refilled and the oyster were always hot enough to burn your fingers. Honorable mention: Oysters Casino (baked oysters on the half with cheese). They also had oyster stew and oyster dressing or casserole. Heavy soups and casseroles fill me up too much so I stuck with the raw, steamed, fried, and baked oysters. You could also get cornbread, salad, and a variety of desserts. Prime rib was also served on the buffet.

Our server was great and the food was above par. Especially the oysters!!! The price was inline with what we expected to pay for this type of food. The experience was great overall. The only negative would come in as the atmosphere. This is a GREAT place for family fun, but there is very limited seating for tables of 2. Therefore they seat you at a table that you share with someone else if there are only 2 of you. I?m no snob, but when I want to sit next to 3-5 other people, I bring them with me. When I?m out with my wife (without the kids for the first time in a year) I?d prefer to have it just be the two of us at the table.
Oyster lovers MUST hit this buffet. You will be dreaming about it days after you leave.

I have wanted to try this place for some time and due to long waits to get in, I haven't. I finally was able to go this past weekend with a bunch of friends. First off, the service was great. Our server was on top of everything and very nice (funny too). The view is great too. Haris' is right on the water with glass all around. I was a little disappointed with the food though. Pretty much everything is fried, and they were out of all sizes of crabs other than the "mediums", which really are smalls (not just here but everywhere calls smalls "medium" it seems). The 'cream of crab' soup was so thick (thicker than gumbo) and full of shells that I gave up after a few scoops. My two other friends that got it agreed and just had a few spoonfulls as well. One of my friends got the NE clam chowder and said that it was pretty good, much better than the soup that I had. I got an order of crabs and found them to be ok, you really can't mess that up. They were a bit expensive in my opinion though. One of my friends got an oyster platter and said that it was very good, but everyone else thought that what they got was just average. I'm not sure that I'de go back, and I definately wouldn't wait in line to get in, which is often the case at Harris. You might want to make the trip to 'Mike's Crab House' on Riva Rd outside Annapolis. Mike's has a larger menu and everything on it that I have had is very good. Just my opinion.

There are two top-notch seafood restaurants in the area and Hemmingway's is one of them. This is a great place for special occasions and romantic evenings. The view of the bay and bay bridge is breathtaking, especially at sunset. The service is perfect and extremely professional. Hemmingway's menu is extensive, as is their wine list. The traditional fare such as rockfish and crab cakes are exquisite, and the daily specials are always very good. I have had about a dozen things on the menu and I have never been disappointed. The Crab Dip appetizer and Oysters Rockefeller are personal favorite, and the wasabe tuna is wonderful. Hemmingway's also makes a mean cream of crab soup as well. So much to choose from that it takes me quite a long time to figure out what it is that I want! My only complaint (and it's not a big deal) is that the small pub at the entrance can sometimes be a bit loud if you sit on that side of the restaurant. Try and get the window seats, especially in the warm weather. It is a wonderful thing to be eating the treasures of the bay while watching the sunset over the Bay Bridge.

My second time back to Ichiban and it was just as fantastic as the first time! This time we were with two other couples and we ordered a boatload (literally) of food! We had the Shumai (shrimp dumplings) and Gyoza (pork dumplings), Miso soup, and Edamame (soy beans) to start. It was all really good - my personal favorite being the Gyoza, but all very good. Next up was the sushi rolls. We got so much that it came out in a big boat, medium boat, and a side plate! The presentation was awesome, right down to a blinking light on the boat. We got the 007 roll (veggie roll), spicy tuna, "Crazy" tuna, a tempura roll, a raw scallop, a spider roll (soft crab), a shrimp roll, and the Rainbow Roll (lots of raw fish). It was all fantastic! The texture, the tightness, the temperature, the taste - all perfect! All of us were extremely happy with Ichiban and we're very happy that there is a great sushi place right here on Kent Island! Give it a try and you won't be disappointed!

What a disappointment. Asian cuisine is my first choice always. Tried Ichiban on Monday when all the others are closed. The lunch was well presented but had the flavor of Safeway sushi. The eel roll was presented with a heavy sweet sauce that overpowered the eel which seemed more micro waved than grilled. The Tempura was competent but had a chicken strip as part of the presentation which seemed totally out of place and bland. The accompanied rice was dry. A sad first attempt.

Tried them again for take out noodles and soup. Called ahead and was told to arrive in 20 minutes. Punctuality seems not to be an important issue for them. Waited an additional 10 minutes and then was told that order was not mine and it would be a few more minutes. The sushi chef indicated they were busy. Only two tables were occupied. Time Flies and I am out of there, never to return.

I guess Café Sado remains the only real Asian choice on Kent Island. Thankfully Café Sado is well run and fabulous.

Anytime my family wants a special Sunday brunch, we go to the Kent Manor and are never disappointed. When family comes to stay, they insist on going to the Kent Manor for the brunch. From the location and decor, to the many food choices, the brunch experience never lets us down. To start off, you have a choice of a Mimosa or Bloody Mary; choose the Mimosa as the Bloody Mary comes premade (that was the case several months ago, don't know if that has changed) and is very very salty. You have a large selection of seafood and regular salads: the salmon is delish! and then there is the room with hot foods and a carvery and omelete station. The desserts are hit or miss. The staff is attentive and very accomodating of small children. The price can be prohibitive so, that is why we only go occassionally. The Sunday Brunch is a must! Definitely two thumbs up!!

We love the Kentmorr for many reasons. As a mother of two (one 7 and one 11) I like that we feel good about bringing the kids here. Some places get annoyed with children, and the patrons of those places seem to be that way too. The Kentmorr has a family atmosphere to it and a lot of people bring the whole family. Another good thing is that while they do have a bar, it is completely separate from the restaurant. I don't want to subject impressionable minds to open bar talk and the visuals that go along with that. With all of that said, the real reason to love this place is the food! They have a large menu and having tried just about everything on it, I can say that the food here is fantastic! My husband always goes for the same thing - the broiled crab cake and baby back ribs platter. He loves it. The kids have a children?s menu to choose from, but mine don't bother with that. My oldest loves snow crab legs, and my youngest goes for the steamed shrimp. I like everything! The view here is worth mentioning too. The restaurant has a wall of windows overlooking the bay (and their own beach) and there is a working fireplace in there as well. The staff is very friendly and good at what they do. I can't recommend Kentmorr enough.

For pasta you can't beat this place. The quality is great and they give gigantic portions at a pretty reasonable price. My favorites here are the "Contorni" appetizer which is a spinach and broccoli dish in olive oil and garlic. It's amazing. Meg seconds that because we always split it because they give you so much. For dinner I absolutely love their Manicotti! Just like my Italian Mom makes! Meg's favorite is the Veal Saltimbocca and the Lobster Raviolis with Shrimp and lump crab. They have a big menu and we haven't tried most of it because what we know that we like is so good that it's hard not to get it. Each time that we've been there the wait staff has been quick and friendly and has made reccomendations. The atmosphere isn't great, (it's in a strip mall), but the food more than makes up for that.

We went to Luke's Grille a week or two ago. The service was wonderful. The atmosphere wasn't exactly *kid friendly* but the place was really done beautifully. My husband ordered the Steak and Cake, I had the Fish 'n' Chip platter (sure that wasn't the name...but that's all I could remember) and the kids got normal kid things. My husband and I enjoyed the quick and polite service and the attitudes of the servers and employees there was really refreshing. We only two slight problems during our dining experience. When reviewing the menu items, I couldn't help but notice that the prices were a little more than we had expected. We came prepared, but some folks may be a little discouraged. And, as I said previously, my husband, a Maryland boy his entire life, ordered the Steak and Cake dinner. He said the steak was wonderful...but... the crab cake...had so much garlic in it, neither one of us could eat it. It looked wonderful. I just wish it had tasted as good as it looked! My husband wondered out loud why people keep trying to improve the crab cake...I honestly had no answer for him. Every thing was really enjoyable but for those two items...and I am hoping they drop a couple of their prices...as well as all of the garlic!

Luke's Grille is located where "Babe's Saloon" used to be, but you would never know that it when you walk in the door. The entire place is different. There is a bar on the left with six or so plasma TV's for watching sports on, and upscale beer on draft. The restaurant is separate (a wall divides it) and is the entire right side of the place. The restaurant has comfortable booth seating as well as tables. The menu at Luke's isn't large, but what they do have is very good. It's a lot of basic items, but done with a twist. I was told that the chef comes from New Orleans and that is why a lot of things have a Cajun flair to them. The gumbo, for example, is amazing. Some of the basics on the menu are hamburgers, chicken strips, shrimp jammers, and fish & chips. Here's where the difference is though - The Fish & Chips are made with catfish and are exceptionally good. The Chicken Strips aren't the kiddie menu variety, but very tasty and unusually tender. The Shrimp Jammers use a red pepper instead of a jalapeńo and are worlds better than I have had elsewhere. The burgers are cooked to order and top meat...very juicy! The steaks (prime rib) look great and the people sitting nearby were raving about it. Don't come here if you are looking for a lobster dinner or anything big-time fancy, but come here for exceptional basic food with a great twist. Luke's Grille is a welcome addition to Kent Island and well worth a visit!

Although we've never been in the restaurant part, my husband and I have been to the bar many times at various evening hours for drinks and food (and live music, when available). The service, food quality and music has reliably good and the cozy atmosphere is quite nice. Happy hour is a good time for testing drinks and appetizers. At first we didn't really care for the bar atmosphere, since we're not big "bar" people. We much prefer the atmosphere of "Meighans" of which we were semi-regular patrons. Luke's is not a "pub" (in my lexicon), but it's as close as we're going to get to the only real pub that once existed on KI (and Meighan sometimes works at Luke's--we love her!!). Simple food served up fresh and hot, friendly service and good music--it don't get much better than that!

December 2006

I generally don't cause a stir on here, but after tonight, I have to be scathing on something that happened to us. We were downtown and after having a good time at Castle Bay for a bit, decided to get a bite to eat. We were in the mood for something kind of fancy, so we chose Maria's. They sat us in the bar area since we didn't have reservations, which wasn't by far what I wanted, but oh well, ok. The appetizer that we got was a shrimp wrapped in bacon thing that was pretty good, and my meal was a fettuccine in a rose' sauce with scallops, shrimp, and crab. It was pretty good. My wife got veal medallions and that was beyond bad. Kind of like leather with lemon sauce, and she couldn't eat it. Since we were in the bar area, people were banging into us and someone reached over our table to pull a picture off of the wall right above us, knocking a bunch of Polaroids on the floor. We picked them up and put them back on the wall, but that was pretty lousy. While all of this was going on a woman walked into the bar area holding a screaming 1 year old (or so), and just stood there letting the child scream. My wife said to me "god, just take it home" too loudly (not intending on anyone but me hearing it), and the woman overheard and got mad. She came over to our table and held the screaming child in my wife's face and said " how do you like that". Great parenting... My wife was pretty irate at this point and called her an A$$ Hole, and then this 35 year old-ish bald guy came over and told us to leave. I asked him who he was and he said that he was the owner. It honestly took everything within me not to make even more of a spectacle, so we got up and left. If this was a family type place that had cheap food, we would gladly deal with it, but since Maria's dinners are all between $26-$35 a plate, ala carte, this isn't cool.

I go out to eat a lot, and I can rattle off pretty much every restaurant in Annapolis and Kent Island and everyone knows us as good people that are fun and tip well. Maria's was the single worst experience that I have ever had. Not only was most of the food terrible, but the owner was an outright a$$hole. I strongly recommend that if you are in Annapolis you stay far away from Maria's. I know that I'll never set foot in that horrible place again. They also own "Mangia's" downtown.

Sorry, but I'm really ticked off about this....

The Narrows is our favorite place to stop for a snack and glass of wine. There is a ledge at the end of the bar with enough room to sit 3 people and you are literally on top of the bay. The view from this seat is breathtaking, so I suggest grabbing up this real estate if you are sitting in the bar area. The wine menu is quite extensive offering multiple bottles and half bottles of wines from different regions. They also have a dozen or so wines that can be ordered by the glass. On this particular trip my wife and I were there for a quick bite and to enjoy the view a bit. We lucked out and had our favorite seats right on top of the water. Our bartender Jenelle, recommended a glass of the Syrah wine which I found delicious and a great match for the seared ahi tuna appetizer. We actually came back the next day for another tuna appetizer for it was truly a party in your mouth. We also enjoyed the crab tart.

Seating in the restaurant is unique in that there really is not a bad seat in the house. (Visit there website and you?ll immediately know what I mean). With the restaurant exterior made completely of windows, the atmosphere is bright, and elegant. Menu prices are a bit high, but there is no gamble in dining here. From the courteous host that greets you when you walk in the door, to the sparkle of the windows and place settings to the unique menu items featuring Maryland Seafood?.The Narrows is the place for a delicious, stimulating dining experience.

This is the place that I go to for special occasions. I can always bet on the food being excellent here. The Narrows offers a lot of unique things on their menu, as well as the nightly specials. Anything that they do blackened is always phenomenal. I had blackened swordfish here and it was amazing! Their Asian-ish specials are always great too. Of course there is always my old standby - the crab cake platter. I know that every restaurant has these in Maryland, and all claim to be tops.... but these really are the best. No filler large cakes with large chunks of crab neatly broiled and flavored with delicate spices. They come to the table with sherry if you like that (and I do!). I have to warn about prices though. I had a smoked lobster tail here, and although it was amazingly great and huge - it was close to $40.00. It was the special and I didn't ask how much it was, or I wouldn't have ordered it (but like I said - it was amazing). If you go for a special, just ask the price. Other than that, this place is a gem. The service is always perfect, the wine list is extensive, and the food is wonderful. Whether you are looking for Sea Bass with an Asian flare, Blackened Tuna, Mahi Mahi, or local favorites like crab cakes and oysters, The Narrows is simply fantastic! Oh yeah, they do have other things besides seafood, but I've never tried any of it because the seafood is just so good...!
